Starlink Troubleshooting Tips

• Restarting Starlink Gen2 (Rectangular Dish with Separate Router):
  • Soft Restart: Unplug the power cable from the router. Wait 10 seconds and plug it back in. This restarts both the router and dish.
  • Hard Restart / Factory Reset: Power cycle the router by unplugging it and plugging it back in 6 times in a row. The system will reset to factory settings (use only if absolutely necessary).
• Restarting Starlink Gen3 (Wi-Fi 6 Router with Integrated Power Supply):
  • Soft Restart: Press and hold the button on the bottom of the router for about 10 seconds until the LED turns off, then release. This performs a soft reboot.
  • Hard Restart / Factory Reset: Press and hold the same button for 20 seconds or more. The LED will flash rapidly — this means the device is resetting to factory settings.
• Using the Starlink App: Open the app and check the “Network” or “Stats” tab for:
  • Signal strength and uptime
  • Obstructions or interference
  • Device performance and error messages
  Great first step when diagnosing slow or unstable connections.
• Wi-Fi Coverage Advice:
  • The Starlink router has limited range — about 100–120 m² in open areas.
  • Wi-Fi signal drops quickly through walls or floors.
  • Add a mesh Wi-Fi system or additional access points for full home coverage.
• Check for Obstructions: Use the Starlink app’s built-in “Obstruction Check” to make sure the dish has a clear view of the sky. Trees, chimneys, or walls can cause dropouts and signal loss.
• Cold or Icy Weather: The dish has built-in heaters and melts snow automatically. Signal may temporarily cut out during heavy snow — it usually recovers on its own. No manual cleaning is required.
